Interview with Mary - Anne Haupt - Reiki Master and Teacher
When changing careers and looking for a new way to practice energy healing in 2025 I came across Mary - Anne's website and was instantly pulled in. Heaven on Earth Healing Arts - sounded just like what my soul dreamed of. Mary - Anne, a retired high school music teacher felt close to my heart, a retired high school art teacher. I just knew that she was the person I'd like to study with.
Mary - Anne later told me that she doesn't advertise nor actively seeks students. Those who are meant to find, do find her. I was nervous and didn't know what to expect as I saw many Reiki courses offered in my area and I was worried that perhaps the training is not high level I was seeking.
With my Reiki Level 1, I was still full of fear. I was actually afraid of Reiki, didn't understand it and thought it maybe in contrary to my Tai Chi energy healing I have been practicing that has helped me heal and change my life. Mary - Anne instantly put my mind at ease. I later learned that this is her absolute talent - she can pacify any fear in an instant and put such a positive spin to my thoughts, I felt more and confident in my own self and developed my intuition quite deeply.
Mary - Anne is captivating, professional, knowledgable and generous in her teaching. She is an embodiment of a spiritual healer - one that you feel safe with. One of the markers for me that I learned over the years is to really observe how the teacher makes me feel. If I leave feeling confident and connected to my intuition, that teacher is for me.
Becoming a Reiki Master was quite a shifting experience. I had to face a lot of my shadow and do my inner work, which I thought I already did, as I have been on the path of healing for several years. The wounds and patterns came up to the surface and Mary - Anne was there to assist and help me see the truth. In all of that, she always left it with me - just the way she teaches and shares in below interview - it was up to me. When I needed guidance, she was there, but didn't pry or push me, didn't attach to my actions at all. I could really understand what it means to be a healer and hold space for others.
Upon graduating, I wanted to bring Mary - Anne's persona to my clients. Not only to share about my teacher, but also to highlight the unique and beautiful person she is. I asked Mary - Anne to do a short interview and here it is. Some of the questions, the way she answers, you can feel and see her spirit shining through and really get a glimpse at who she is. I will also be coming back for more courses with Mary - Anne, including the shamanic ones, which have been calling my soul for quite some time.
Can you tell us what Reiki is to you, personally?
Reiki is natural healing energy that flows through us from Source. When we learn to observe the energies rather than try to control them with our ego and expectations, the energy can flow unencumbered to the client and go where it is needed. It is up to the client to be receptive to the energies and also do their own work at clearing their blockages (which have evolved from years of trauma and triggers and unconscious living). The Practitioner remains detached from the outcome as it is up to the client to effect their own healing. We are merely the conduit for the energies to flow.
When did you first learn Reiki?
I began studying reiki in the late 1990's with Reiki Master Donalda Loucks in Mississauga. I did most of my Reiki training with her.
How come you know so many different types of Reiki and healing practices? Why did you keep studying and learning and what came to you as a result of your quest?
Over the years, I studied Karuna reiki, Blue Star Celestial reiki and Axiatonal Re-Alignment with my teacher, Donalda Loucks. Over the years, I added Sekhmet Egyptian reiki from my own studies and travel to Egypt. I took the Lightarian Reiki training online. I studied with Almine Barton as well as Carol Elaine Earth Heart Keeper for my shamanic and native earth ways training. I have had the great fortune to have studied with some incredible teachers over the years: Caroline Myss, Ted Andrews, Robert Moss and many more. I also teach the MerKaBa, which teaches how to activate the Light Body. I recently started The Mystery School of the Sacred Flame, offering Sethian Gnostic teachings as well as monthly sessions to learn how to live the principles and learn how to navigate the death process to transcend the reincarnation cycle at death.
What are some things about Reiki that are not known by many people but you wish were more commonly known?
I wish people would understand that the reiki energies cannot harm them and they are not the energies of the Practitioner - they come from Source energy. But, clients must take responsibility for their own healing by working through their shadows and become conscious of where they are still holding on to the masks they wear and the roles they play, which keep them "stuck."
Do you have any success stories that you can share with us?
I have many - too many to share here, but I have witnessed dramatic shifts and healing in those who are dedicated to their own growth and transformation. They are willing to let go, accept what is, see the shadows that have been running the show for years, and take their personal power back in an authentic way by honouring their boundaries and changing their attitudes and behaviours and to see where they have been plugged in to destructive patterns that do not serve them.
What sort of issues do people come to Reiki for?
This question is very broad. People from all walks of life come with many different issues. Some are steeped in childhood trauma that they are still living into adulthood; some are dealing with relationship issues; some are dealing with archetypal roles they are playing that do not serve them. They cannot see the patterns they are enmeshed in because they often are reliving the past or anxious over the future. Again, the client must be prepared to look at the role they have played in creating this imbalance and be open to accept responsibility for the imbalance. This can be something as simple as taking back their personal power by applying personal boundaries, or owning where/who they gave their power away to.
How long have you been teaching Reiki?
I have been practicing/teaching since 1999.
How many students did you have over the years?
I teach every weekend except on holidays, so I would image I have taught hundreds of students over the years.
What differentiates you from other Reiki schools and workshops?
I cannot answer that question but can only tell you how I teach. I teach from the heart, with strong boundaries and I personally practice what I teach to the best of my ability. I feel I am totally authentic with my students and have close bonds with them because of the trust that is built through the work. My practice is a sacred practice - not a business. I run my courses as a sacred circle and honour the teachings and lineage.
How does your music background contribute to your Reiki practice and teaching?
Music, of course, can be a very big part of healing because it is frequency. The 4 bodies respond to frequency and the use of music assists in aligning and balancing the chakras. I also use drums and rattle to assist in breaking up stagnant energies. Each of the chakras must vibrate at the correct frequency for health, and sound is an excellent addition to that process.
What is "Heart of the Mother" and how did you become an embodiment of that?
"Heart of the Mother" was the spirit name my Elder Medicine woman, Carol Elaine Earth Heart Keeper gave me when I was a part of her healing lodge in Arizona. She saw the teacher in me and my love for helping others. I was also a high school music teacher for 30 years, working with teenagers and loving every minute of it. I did not receive the blessing of having my own children, but instead, was a mother to many, and still am. After Carol's passing, I asked permission to create the Rainbow Medicine Lodge in Canada, to continue her legacy, as well as offer a variety of shamanic healing courses based on my studies with the Foundation of Shamanic Studies.
Can you tell us what healing really is?
Healing is totally the responsibility of the person wanting to affect change in their lives by being authentic with themselves about where they have given their personal power away. It is no one else's job to fix you. You must do the work. It is not easy - that's why it is work. Healers can show you the path, but you must be the one to walk it and release what/who no longer serves. Table work, therapy, etc. is merely the Way Shower - it is up to the individual to change their behaviours, attitudes, patterns and emotional clinging in order to shift the outcome of their lives.
